Flamstead Book Festival August 30th - 1st September
FLAMSTEAD BOOK FESTIVAL
THURSDAY 30TH AUGUST - SATURDAY 1ST SEPTEMBER
I love this festival! It always has a really varied programme with something for everyone and I have seen some fantastic authors there over the last couple of years, in a beautiful setting which makes the event feel even more of a treat. The festival is run by a very small team of volunteers who live in the village and it takes place in St Leonards, a stunning Grade 1 listed, 12th Century church.
You can browse the full programme for the festival here - and I highly recommend that you do as it's so varied and exciting, I can't cover all the events in this post! However, here are three events that really appeal to me - I've booked my tickets so why not come along and join me!
SARAH VAUGHAN - ANATOMY OF A SCANDAL
Friday 31st August
20.00-21.00
Drinks from 7.30pm, talk to start at 8.00pm
£10 with a glass of wine
Best-selling novelist Sarah Vaughan will be in conversation about how she got into writing and the success of her topical thriller Anatomy of a Scandal.
The book has been compared to the psychological novel Apple Tree Yard, televised earlier this year, and if you enjoyed that you will love her gripping page-turner.
Asking the questions – and trying not to reveal the twist – will be journalist Vikki Orvice
This book has without a doubt been one of THE most talked about thrillers of 2018 - and the story couldn't be more topical or more relevant. I love this book and having seen Sarah talk at several events this year, I can safely say that she is one of the most intelligent, articulate and engaging speakers I have listened to. It will be a fabulous event and I can't wait to meet her again!
Here's a link to my review with a Q&A with Sarah, and a further link to my Bibliomaniac Book Club post:
Saturday 1st September
14.00-15.00
£10.00 with voucher for tea or coffee
Helen Pankhurst is the great-granddaughter of suffragette leader Emmeline Pankhurst.
She will be talking about her famous family, her role as a consultant on the film Suffragette which starred Meryl Streep as Emmeline and her new book Deeds not Words published to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the suffragettes’ great victory – the passing of the Representation of the People Act which first gave women the right to vote.
CLARE MULLEY- THE WOMEN WHO FLEW FOR HITLER
Saturday 1st September
16.00-17.00
tickets: £8.00
Back by popular demand, historical biographer Clare Mulley makes a welcome return after her well-received session at our debut Festival in 2014.
She will be talking about her new work The Women Who Flew For Hitler.
I'm sure you agree, this is a fab line up and one not to be missed! Why not come along and see these fascinating writers talking about their latest books!
